Empowering children through education and family support
With the generous support of the Chalk Cliff Trust, UK Bangladesh Education Trust (UKBET) is expanding its Doorstep Learning Programme to two additional wards in Sylhet in 2026. This support will enable 48 additional children engaged in domestic labour to access education, life skills and pathways towards a safer future.
The programme will support 16 children to leave child labour, with 8 progressing into formal schooling and 8 into vocational training. Families will also receive guidance and support, including access to health services and education opportunities for siblings.
Through UKBET’s Family Futures programme, 8 families will receive microgrants to start or expand small businesses such as sewing and tailoring, beauty services, small retail stalls, poultry or livestock rearing, vegetable cultivation and home-based catering. By strengthening family livelihoods, the programme aims to reduce dependence on children’s income and support their continued education.
The project will also deliver six community awareness-raising meetings, engaging approximately 200 community members and strengthening understanding of children’s rights, education and the importance of ending child labour.
