As the eldest of five children, Salma Jannat had to leave school when her family faced financial difficulties. After their home was destroyed in the 2022 floods, her family moved to the city. Her father began working as a rickshaw driver and her mother found work as a domestic worker. To help support her family, Salma also began working part-time and had to stop her studies.
Through UKBET’s Doorstep Learning Programme, Salma was given the opportunity to continue her education. Seeing her enthusiasm for learning, the community teacher helped her re-enrol in a local madrasa in the first grade. Her younger brother was also enrolled in school.
Salma is now studying in the second grade and is happy to be back in education. With support from UKBET, her father also received a rickshaw, helping to improve the family’s financial situation. Today, Salma and her family are looking forward to a brighter future.
