Lamia, aged 12

Aug 17, 2026 | Testimonials, News, Publications

After losing her mother, Lamia was raised by her father and grandmother. She had to leave school at the end of Year 2 because of financial hardship. When her grandmother was seriously injured in an accident, Lamia began working as a child domestic worker to help support her family.

Through UKBET’s Doorstep Learning Programme, Lamia’s father received a Family Futures microgrant in the form of a rickshaw to help increase the family’s income. In return, the family committed to ending Lamia’s child labour and supporting her return to education.

Lamia now attends the Doorstep Learning Programme regularly and is preparing to enrol in mainstream school in January 2027. She hopes to continue her education, find a good job and support her family in the future.
