Loli had been working as a full-time domestic labourer from a young age and had never had the opportunity to attend school. Aged 18, Loli was enrolled on to our Doorstep Learning Project and under the guidance of our UKBET Community Teacher Ms Jhorna, Loli learned basic literacy and numeracy skills. It was during her classes with Ms Jhorna that she realised that she wanted to pursue a career in tailoring. With the help of UKBET, she received vocational training as well as her own sewing machine and soon became a skilled tailor!
Loli’s ambitions didn’t stop there. She had always dreamed of opening her own tailoring shop and becoming an entrepreneur. And recently, with our guidance, she was able to secure a grant to take the first step towards making that dream a reality. Loli is now well-established, has a stable income and she’s determined to help other girls like her achieve the same level of success.
She wants to be a role model and empower other young women to leave domestic work and become entrepreneurs. It’s incredible to see how much Loli has accomplished in such a short time, and her story is a testament to the power of education and vocational training.
Will you support our work and help more girls like Loli?
