Meet Jhorna Begum, our incredibly hard-working teacher and the winner of the ‘Best Community Teacher Of The Month’ award in January. This award is presented to a community teacher from the Doorstep Learning Project and is based on their students’ performances in the monthly assessments. Jhorna combined her excellent teaching skills with the monthly lesson plans designed by the DLP coordinators to achieve the outstanding result of 10 out of her 15 pupils scoring more than 85% on the assessments.
“My heart breaks whenever I hear a child was forced to leave school in order to prioritise helping their family survive. It’s inhuman! No child deserves it! It’s always been my dream to do something for these underprivileged children, which is why I joined UKBET back in 2019. Nothing gives me more joy than witnessing my students going back to school and continuing their studies. These children were deprived of a basic human right, an education and I love being able to help them live a normal childhood. This award is just the icing on the cake.”
